Caleb Reading & Reading & Reading...

Caleb has enjoyed reading Minerva Louise books to Joshy. Here, he drew a picture of her wearing a 'hat' made of mittens. Caleb thought it was so funny that she put one on her rear end too!! He just had to draw it!

Caleb & Josh reading Brown Bear together...

Caleb reading Minerva Louise to Josh. Josh seems to be "digging for gold" during the story!!

Oatmeal & Grasshoppers!?

Oatmeal & Grasshoppers...that was the topic of discussion this morning at breakfast! You never know what the day will bring! Anyway, Caleb apparently had a bad dream last night. He woke Jon up around 2:00 am to tell him all about it...I was glad that he waited to tell me the details over breakfast when I was fully awake!!
Apparently a giant grasshopper was inhabiting his bedroom last night and decided that it was going to crawl in Caleb's bed. I told him that I did not blame him...all that hopping must have made him pretty tired and he has such a cozy and warm bed! He said that the grasshopper started to jump on him and it caused Caleb to bounce all the way up to the moon. I told him that must have been exciting...he really wants to go to the moon anyway...he said that it was definitely not exciting...but SCARY! He said that he fell back down into his bed and then the police came to arrest the mean grasshopper and sent him to jail! I told him good thing and that I didn't think he could jump his way out of jail!

Josh was pretty entertained by the story and I am sure he will have his share of scary dreams someday! It is funny though, Caleb's version of a bad dream usually consists of some type of insect: bees, spiders and now grasshoppers can be added to the list. He has a pretty vivid imagination!

Caleb listed all the things that he does doing the day...breakfast, bubble bath, get dressed, play time, lunch, school, kisses, dinner and bed time. It is funny to see how he spelled some of the things. My favorite is brecfust!

Yeah...Caleb is in Spanish Immersion Program!

We have been researching this new program offered at our district school (just a few blocks away) but we were sad to hear that it was full and they even filled a second class due to its popularity. We decided to fill out the interest form anyway and have him on the waiting list of 15+. My approach with this was that if God wanted him in the program, then He would provide a way and an opening. Well, this morning, we got a call from the school and there was an opening and Caleb was their first choice because he was in the district! I told her that I would call her back in an hour or so because I wanted to ask Caleb about it again. He knew that the class was full and he was so disappointed earlier. So, I told him that there was an opening and asked if he wanted to go and he was really excited about it! So, Caleb will become bilingual by the 3rd grade! It is 100% Spanish Immersion in K-3rd and then 1/2 Spanish and English 4th - 5th grade. In the class, Spanish is not the topic of instruction, it is simply the method of instruction. The curriculum is the same as the English class down the hall, but it is taught in Spanish. I have attached a link to the website with FAQ and a video sample of what the class is like and the teacher. Enjoy...he is so thrilled and we are excited to provide him with this rare opportunity! I think it will give him that extra challenge that he craves in school!

Speedy Gpa & Gma Miller Visit

Grandpa & Grandma stopped in Sioux Falls on their way back home from vacation in South Padre Island, TX. They came along to pick Caleb up from school and he was sooo surprised to see them there! They are wearing their new TX shirts here!
We had dinner and then had fun playing together. Joe & Margaret enjoyed reading books to Josh. His favorite is Cars! I think he gets his love of race cars from Gpa Joe! "Speed, I Am Speed!" as Lightning McQueen would say!

"Love You Day"

We had a fun Valentine's Day with the boys this year. It was just a quiet day at home because we just returned from the farm. Caleb requested heart shaped pancakes...which Jon attempted and then mom had to step in because they did not resemble hearts at all! We knew that they would just not do for "artist" Caleb!
Then he squeeezzzed into his old Curious George costume...to be Cupid George...I guess! He wore this costume when he was 3 & 4 for Halloween, so it is like stuffing a sausage to get into it now! I am not sure he is going to be that eager to pass on the sacred George costume when Josh gets big enough!

Caleb picked out these flowers, made a card for me and shared a few George's as well!

Josh enjoyed some cuddle time with Daddy...and George!
We have a house full of little monkeys I guess!

Farm Visit

It was time for Jon to work the NE area of the state a few weeks ago, so we all went along for the ride. The visit would not be complete without a few rounds of Scrabble and Bananagram's between Jon & Margaret. It gets pretty competitive...as you can see!
The Frericks' crew came over for dinner and Nathan and Josh are usually quick buddies. Giving knuckles here!

Caleb stays busy coloring, drawing and playing computer games at Grandma's house. This is his world map...sorry for using up all your paper:(

Grandma found a tote full of some old construction trucks that Jon used to play with and Josh thought he had struck gold! He loved playing with all the big trucks!

Jon reading Josh's favorite book while he plays with a treasure from the tote! See "My Truck Is Stuck...Yuck" blog entry for a funny story. Now I can say it is funny...not at the time though!!

Josh getting his 4-wheeler stuck in play dough! This keeps him busy forever!
