July...

Here is a quick run down of July... It was a busy and fun month!
We started off the month taking the kids to a class at the Outdoor Campus put on by the SD Parks and Rec. Every month they feature an animal and then learn all about it through puppet shows, stories, crafts, games, etc. I think it was about Geese this month!
Josh is convinced that his arms will reach the end of the eagles when he is a "big daddy" someday!

Joe and Margaret came to visit for the weekend. We had fun biking on the bike trails along the river.

Then off to the farm for the week before the 4th of July! I took Caleb, Josh and Cassidy to Storybook Land. A visit to Aberdeen in the summer would not be complete without this "must see" destination! The kids still enjoy going!

Train ride...
I took a picture of Caleb with one of the munchkins from the Land of Oz when he was about two and it has become an annual tradition to take his picture with the same little munchkin to see how much he has grown. Josh started standing with him when he was about the same age! He was about 1/2 as tall as he is now! In the original picture, Caleb was holding his thumb, so he has done that in every picture since!

Skipping down the yellow brick road in the Land of Oz! That was tough to do...it was soooo hot that day!

Cooling off in the Redfield pool the next day!

Celebrating the 4th of July at the annual Candy (I mean, 4th of July) Parade in Redfield! The kids associate this parade with getting a years supply of candy! They are very generous at these small town parades!

We went for a picnic at the park afterwards and thought it was so cute how the boys camped out here and seemed to be deep in conversation. We found out later that they each had their candy bucket and were gorging themselves on their treasured candy stash! So much for the oh so cute brotherly moment! By the looks of all the empty candy wrappers left in the bucket, they had about 20 pieces each!

Aunt Anne baked up some cupcakes and decorated it with Josh's favorite vehicle...4 wheelers! We celebrated his 4th birthday a few days early before fireworks in the backyard.
Nate and Josh playing 4-wheelers...

Nate put on quite the fireworks show for all of us! Some of them were really loud!
No, we are not cold...actually it was a really hot and muggy night...the mosquito's were terrible and the only solution was to dress for the winter! Caleb has such a hot and sweaty head that the mosquito's love to feast on his little noggin! So, we did our best to cover him up!

Josh and I didn't have quite the same problem...thankfully the mosquitos don't like us as much as they do Jon and Caleb!

Katrina helping Josh with a sparkler before a late night up...11:30 at night...only about 3 hours past his bed time!

July 12th...Four years ago Josh was born and we started his special day of celebrating by going to the dentist! Yes, mommy had a huge brain block when I scheduled their dental visits 6 months earlier! Sorry little guy! This was his first time (we avoided it like the plague because there is no way he would have opened his mouth a year ago for this)! I think it helped that he got to wear these cool sunglasses and watched the Disney channel!

Now onto more exciting things...

Cake...Josh LOVES chocolate cake...or should I say, chocolate frosting?! He only eats the frosting. We make a good pair because I am not a frosting fan and prefer only the cake part!

Then we took the kids to Thunder Road for some go karts, mini golf and these fun kids bungee jumping things...

They both LOVED these!

See video at the end...

Josh had fun opening gifts at the end of the day...he loves anything with wheels or sharp teeth (sharks and dinosaurs)!

The kids and I went along with Jon on a business trip to Mpls. and Aunt Sarah was able to meet us there for a few days. We went to the Minnesota Zoo. Lots of fun watching the bird show!

The monkeys are always fun to watch...this little guy was lounging on a log...pretty cute!

Looking at butterflies in the butterfly house. They both always enjoy those.

We went to the underwater area and saw some sharks. They boys loved that!

Then off to a Twins game in the new Target Center! Amazing stadium named after my favorite store :)
Caleb always enjoys an excuse to eat yummy food! He seems to have a bottomless pit of a stomach when we attend sporting events... all those vending guys walking around with all sorts of yummy food is just too much of a temptation for him :)

All in all, we had a really busy and fun July! It felt like we were hardly home, so we stayed close to home to enjoy lots of fun in Sioux Falls in August!

Jessie and Josh enjoyed exercising together on the treadmill...not sure which one was having more fun!

June Highlights...

This has been such a busy summer...that I am terribly behind on our family blog...so I will do a quick recap of each month! Here are some highlights of June...

Joshy continues to be good buddies with Jessie...except for when she chews up his favorite toy! Crocodile tears flow...

Denise was able to come back to the states for a few weeks to be in a good friends wedding and to visit friends and family. So good to see her and her parents!

Caleb was invited to a friends birthday party where they went horseback riding. We all went along since we are such horse lovers!
Josh enjoyed petting all the horses and even got up on a horse for the first time...he loved it!

Caleb enjoyed his ride too! He has been on a horse before but it was a miniature horse, so this was pretty exciting for him. Their horses name was Ginger and she was sooo gentle and great for kids!

We had fun watching all the kids take turns and then went to find some barn kitties to pet.
Off to Rapid City...

We had to make our traditional stop at Wall Drug...
Caleb practiced his shooting skills with a Buck Shot game &

Josh chose the motorcycle ride because he likes to go "super fast!"

Josh finally got brave enough to watch the big T-Rex pop up and roar behind the wall. See video at the end of post!
Lots of swimming at the hotel while dad worked shorter days in Rapid!

We did lots of outdoor and forest exploring...
The boys love that just as much and it is easier on our pocket book than all the "tourist traps!"

They both enjoyed exploring, collecting rocks and seeing lots of little critters. We even saw a turtle swimming in the lake!

The boys really enjoyed all the rock climbing.

We found a lake to do a little sand castle building and wading.
A trip to Rapid would not be complete without a stop at Dinosaur Park. Josh LOVES dinosaurs!
A final stop at Mt. Rushmore!

Father's Day!

Josh braving the T-Rex exhibit... Notice that he doesn't blink!
