Well, we will pick up where we left off last month...Caleb's pinewood derby car! He sanded, painted and decorated his car and then Jon put on the wheels.
It was important to have them at exact 90 degree angles or the car would pull to one side of the track and rub on the edges. That would slow it down considerably. We also had to add weight to the car to get it as close to possible to 5 oz. without going over.
Caleb was pretty excited to see how his car would do in the big race.
They looked it over and had the weigh in. It was 4.7oz...so pretty close for guessing at home! We also had to have 70% of the weight in the back and about 30% in the middle for the best speed! Thank goodness for the internet to get all kinds of tips! Some people went all out, but we decided to stick to the original kit and wheels and did pretty well.

All the cars were in and weighed...now it is time for the race to begin!
It was a double elimination race. Caleb actually won his first race and then came in 2nd for the second race and then came in 3rd for the third race. He was pretty excited!
Jon had to work in Pierre the week of my birthday and we got the idea to celebrate it in Pierre and get a hotel room. We also tried something new...brought Jessie with us! It went well with the dog and the kids loved playing in the pool ALOT!

The next afternoon we went to the riverfront to go for a walk through the park and throw rocks in the river. They boys LOVE throwing rocks in rivers, lakes, any body of water...must be a boy thing :)
Then, we celebrated my birthday with yummy cake, gifts and dinner out!
The boys made my birthday extra special and really fun...thanks Jon for a great few days in Pierre with my 3 favorite boys :) I am so blessed!!
Caleb had his first Sock Hop dance at school (Hawaiian theme). They could bring one parent and he wanted daddy to go & watch.
Caleb's gym teacher, Mrs. Meyers, had been working on dance moves all month in PE and the kids had so much fun!! It was quite the workout! Jon took video...it might as well been an aerobic class!! Caleb won a prize for the best "Twist"! Pretty exciting for him!!
This is Caleb with one of his best friends...Claire Y (as she is known). That is what happens when there are two Claire's in the 1st grade Spanish Immersion program. There is also another Caleb, but Caleb has been fortunate to not be in the same class as him yet. Otherwise, he will be known as "Caleb M" by all!!
We finished off the month with a visit from Gpa & Gma Miller. The main reason for their visit was to replace the toilet in the boys' bathroom. It is a well known fact in our house than Caleb cannot have a #2 without plugging the toilet. Well, I had had enough with the plunging one week and went to buy a toilet! We bought the Elger Titan model...it will flush a basket full of golf balls...so it better flush Caleb's you-know-what!! Well, the toilet replacement lead to another project...we wanted to change the floor in there to one of Jon's products. You might as well replace the floor if you are pulling up the toilet...right?! Well, that led to changing the light fixture! I wanted to do that for sometime and knew that Joe's expert fix-it skills were much better than ours when dealing with electrical issues! I don't have any pictures of our project, but it was a lengthy one! Thanks Joe...I am soooo happy to report that our new toilet works great and the plunger has not entered the room since you replaced the toilet :)
