Well, before we went on our big first Pheasant Hunt of the year, we picked some apples at
G'pa &
G'pa Miller's house...

...and climbed a few trees!!

Then we helped G'pa clear some dead trees in the tree grove and put them in a big pile. All of us but Caleb that is...he wanted to build a fort instead! He is not real big into manual labor!!

Jessie enjoyed sniffing out all the little critter trails in the trees and carried a few sticks herself!! She loves being with us at the farm!
G'pa Joe got a new 4-wheeler, so Jon and the boys had to take it for a test spin or two...or ten...or twenty!!

Then we went to a football game at Jon's high school to watch our nephew, Nathan, play. The boys were all ready in their green & gold! Josh was in a pretty goofy mood...

We had a gorgeous day for our pheasant hunt...our first one with our dog! Josh enjoyed loading up daddy's vest with shells.

Jessie got on her vest too (which saved her from getting cut with barbed wire on her back!)

We are all ready in our blaze orange...except
G'ma...we ran out of hats, so she found a red one!

Josh quickly got to work collecting (one of his favorite things to do) some corn cobs. He took them back to
G'ma's house and plucked all the kernels off later that day! I thought it would be perfect for feeding to the geese in Sioux Falls :)

Joe and Jon made a plan on where to go and then we were off. We had pretty low expectations going in and were more curious than anything else, if Jessie would find any REAL birds. We practiced at home with a dummy pheasant and she did great!

She did flush several birds for us near the slew area and she could go places that we could not go. Unfortunately, they were mainly hens and the one rooster got away!

We went through several tree groves and we did flush out a few more. Jon ended up with one in the end, but it was a really big one! The boys were pretty happy to see one up close and get a few tail feathers for a
souvenir :) Josh brought his feather to school for show-and-tell the next week for "F" week!

The next day we played on
G'pa's HUGE hay bale pile. This provides hours of
entertainment for kids...and adults!

Caleb &
Cassidy are kings of the mountain (I mean, hay hill)!!

Jon played a game of tag on the smaller flat pile of bales...so fun for them!

Josh was so pleased to find this fuzzy caterpillar in the bales and played with it for a few hours! He even took it on a 4-wheeler ride before we went home and it kind of flew out of his little mitts in the wind...he was
soooo bummed :(

Time to head for home...we had an awesome weekend :)
