My "Craigslist" Garden!

We Fisher's are project people.  It seems that every time we get together...either at my place or my parents place, we have a project.  Painting, dog fences, repairing siding, making side walks,  and now, a raised vegi garden! It is a fun way to spend time together and we get something accomplished all at the same time!   I have been emailing dad some of my ideas and Jon & I bought cedar wood before their arrival in anticipation of our project!

I should also explain why I call this my Craigslist Garden.  Actually it is a Craigslist-Consignment Shop-Clean Out the Closets & Garage Garden!  Nothing like a little Spring cleaning & de-cluttering right?!  Well, I knew the garden would not be cheap, so I got creative and sold a bunch of outgrown kids things to pay for it.  So, now we have a few less things in our garage & closets AND a new garden!  What a deal!

So, we got right to it!  Joshy enjoyed playing in the yard, while mom, dad & I cut and screwed our garden together.

And...Jon supervised!  Just kidding...he said that himself actually when we took this  picture!  Jon's job was buying and hauling 50 bags of top soil & garden soil!  We joked that the dirt cost more than the cedar, screws & bunny fence that we created combined!  What has the world come to that DIRT is so expensive!!  CRAZY!

So, this is our finished project!  Notice all that expensive dirt in the background :(   We have a sloped yard, so it made a simple raised garden a little bit more complicated.  But, I think it looks great!

We hauled it to the backyard and it fit the slope perfectly...phew!  We buried the posts and laid our weed barrier (yeah...NO weeds to pull.  A MAJOR reason we wanted the raised bed!)

Jon got busy hauling the dirt and Josh LOVED helping fill the bed and leveling it all out!

Dad and I put up the bunny fence.  This is a must around here because we have lots of them!  We don't want to share the fruits of our labor with them :)

Last, Josh contributed the worms from "Worm Day" at preschool that he had last Friday!  He was thrilled to take a big tote full of dirt and worms home and he placed each one carefully in their new worm habitat!  Hopefully the little guys will help our garden grow! 

He even made himself a worm bracelet...gross!!  I said, "Oh... how nice" while my skin crawled!!  He is all boy alright!!

Thanks again mom & dad for all your help with our garden!  Hopefully when you come to visit again in August we will have some yummy vegis to eat with you!!  More pics to come of their visit...we did more than just work you know!!

Easter Weekend Fun

We had  a different kind of Easter this year.  Different but good!  We usually visit Jon's family for the holiday weekend but we had some plans to visit a few weekends later with my parents,  so we opted to just go once in April .  We always have such a fun time at the farm though! 

The boys sang at church on palm Sunday.  They did a great job!

We decorated Easter eggs...

We stuffed ourselves silly with a yummy ham dinner later in the afternoon and then we had some fun gifts in their Easter baskets!

After that we were ready for the big Easter egg hunt.  Jon hid all the eggs outside and we told the boys not to peek out the windows!  Josh was so eager to get hunting!

Jon did a great job hiding them everywhere...it was quite a challenge to find them all :)

They had fun opening all the eggs to reveal candy, money and little toys!

It was definitely different to have Easter with just the four of us!   We had a fun day with each other and celebrating our risen Lord!  We missed all of the Miller crew though and hopefully will see you during the summer months :)

Green Thumb??

Well, I am trying something new this year...starting garden seeds and planting my OWN garden...yeah!  I love the idea of a vegi garden but our house in Aberdeen was so shady and we only recently decided to put in a raised garden at our new house! I will show our work on that in a later post!   Josh was eager for an excuse to dig in the dirt...I knew he would be a very willing helper!

He filled all the little cells with dirt and  seeds...it was so fun for him and he was so proud of all his work!  Now...several weeks later I have to confess, I may not be that much of a green thumb!  I planted flower seeds and most did not work.  The peppers & tomatoes are doing well though!  So maybe we have a little bit of green thumb in us after all?!!

I purchased some cute wood bird houses at Hobby Lobby...LOVE that store!  I thought it would be a fun project for Easter break and to welcome the official start of spring! 

They picked out their colors and painted away!

They turned out great and for now are decorations in the house.  We will move them outside soon!

Falls Park!

We had a gorgeous day to take advantage of so we made our first visit of the year to Falls Park.  The falls were really full with spring melting and the boys were eager to climb & skip some rocks!  Here are some pictures from our day...

Hockey, Faucets & Water Guns...

Caleb had another opportunity this month to sing the National Anthem with his boys choir group.  This time they sang at a Stampede Hockey game.  It was a great opportunity to see a hockey game for the first time!  Another first for us...Jon & I were able to take Caleb without having little brother tag along.  It was a special time with just him!

Joe & Margaret came to visit for the weekend and Joshy wanted to stay at home with them and play instead :)  We try and have special "dates" with the boys, but we have to take turns.  This allowed us to have alone time with Caleb...just the 3 of us!  The choir did a great job and it was fun to see a hockey game too!

We enjoyed the weekend playing games, getting pointers on adding the left hand to the song, "There's a Hole in the Bucket," and some monster drawing!

Joe had some "jobs" to do around the house.  He installed a new kitchen faucet/sprayer and we solved the mystery of why we had no power in the garage after we had new flooring installed in our house.  Mystery solved and we now have power in the garage and a sprayer that works!  Many thanks for Joe's repair know-how and to Margaret for her piano/babysitting know-how!  We loved having you two!

Can I just say we have had an AWESOME spring!  I know I have commented on it several times but I can't remember the last time we had swim trunks on & water guns out the end of March :)
